Parity of esteem is yet another euphemism for doing nothing, but suggesting to the public that the NHS cares about Mental Health patients. In the CCG I worked for, before raising concerns which were followed by bullying, harassment, discrimination, victimisation, suspension and dismissal they firstly didn’t feel the need to appoint a MH commissioner, then when they did problems arose which resulted in the MH leads a clinician and a non-clinician being placed on garden leave / suggested dismissals, without immediate replacement, no stability, a myriad of temporary staff or none, so 4 years into life of CCG no one has yet developed a MH Strategy to fully work with providers to review contracts and provision. Only now is there a suggestion that the CCG plan to address inadequacies in the system. Although looking at other assurances on CCG website patients may have a long wait ahead.
